Workplace Violence

project start date: April 12, 2013

Every workplace needs to be a safe and respectful environment, and employers are required by law to keep the workplace free of workplace violence. Many work places struggle as they try to develop and implement policies and procedures to prevent and address domestic violence in the workplace. Violence Prevention Grey Bruce can help with training that is customized to employer and employee needs. We are proud to offer certified training through the Make It Our Business www.makeitourbusiness.com workplace violence program. For over five years VPGB has worked with the Centre for Research and Education at Western University to offer workplace training in Grey Bruce. Over 40 workplaces in Grey Bruce have completed this training and are workplace champions.

The program

Make It Our Business program provides multi-level training to prepare everyone in your workplace to fulfill their roles and responsibilities. Community experts provide support to help you deal with the costs and challenges of domestic violence in the workplace. The training options are:

Level 1: Developing Awareness provides access to information to all employees through brochures and a website.

Level 2: Basic Education is a one-hour long session designed to give all employees key information and resources as well as directions for further self-directed study.

Level 3: Leadership Development is a daylong interactive session that offers managers and supervisors enhanced opportunities to learn practical problem solving skills. A three-hour version of this training session is also available.

Level 4: Sustaining Culture Change is a two-day intensive workshop for a team with the designated responsibility to prevent and respond to domestic violence in your workplace. This training prepares participants to implement and support organization wide efforts to recognize and respond to domestic violence.
