Free Teen Video Workshop – Jan 11, 2020

Violence Prevention Grey Bruce is offering a free video workshop for teens from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday  January 11th in Owen Sound. The workshop is in support of the Art for Change contest that runs until January 17th to inspire young people to create art about healthy and unhealthy relationships.

Students in grades 7 to 12 are invited to submit visual art and graphic design.  Students in grades 9-12 can also create 60 second videos to submit. All submissions will be shown at an awards event on February 13th and cash prizes will be awarded to the top three submissions in each category.

“We’re hoping the contest will inspire young people to start conversations about healthy relationships and we’ll be sharing their art online to spread their messages further”, said Jon Farmer, Coordinator of Violence Prevention Grey Bruce.

The workshop on January 11th is one of three workshops made possible by support from the Community Foundation Grey Bruce, Farmer explained.

“We know that not everyone has access to the tools they would need to create a video and we want to make sure there are no barriers to participating in this contest”, Farmer added.

Local arts facilitator Lauren Best will facilitate the workshop and introduce participants to video recording and editing on iPads. There will also be gas cards available for participants who are coming from outside of Owen Sound.  Registration for the 12 available spots is on a first come basis and can be done by emailing with the subject line ‘Video Workshop’.
